Southwest High School

Southwest High School is a historic school in the Kansas City Missouri School District. Well, we could say that for any number of buildings in our city. It is located just south of Wornall Road Baptist Church by a few blocks.

During the massive merging of the schools that took place at the beginning of this year, essentially three high schools combined into one. With this, much has occured. Fires have been started, fights have broken out, and the school at times is struggling.

As the church, when someone/thing in a community is struggling, we should be first in line to serve it. We have tried to do just that since the beginning of this school year. From bring donuts to preparing meals for the basketball teams, there is a great deal of need that simply isn't being addressed.

Southwest is home to no fewer than 100 homeless students. Social workers work with them on a daily basis to ensure their needs are met. Sometimes they are, sometimes they are not.

In the past week, three fires have been set, fights have broken out, and now other copy-cat acts are happening at other schools in the district.

Rather than join the crowd of people who are critical of the KCMO school district, and look at it with disgust, we are trying fervently to let our schools know that we love them, are rooting for them, and are their biggest fan. Our communities will only grow stronger when the love of Christ is poured on them. Follow the link below to see how our church has been helping in efforts for the schools.
